3ABCT, 1CD, deployed to the Central Command (CENTCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR) as the Operation Spartan Shield (OSS) ABCT throughout Central and South Asia, the Greater Levant, and the Central Gulf regions in alignment with the goals set forth by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the National Military Strategy (NMS), January 2015, to “remain globally engaged to shape the security environment and to preserve our network of alliances” from 12 March 2017 to 19 November 2017. The BDE’s mutual cooperation with seven nations proved invaluable in countering state and non-state actors and Violent Extremist Organizations (VEOs) intent on carrying out direct attacks and information operation campaigns against Coalition Forces (CF) and allied nations in order to (IOT) further destabilize the region. The BDE conducted Theater Security Cooperation (TSC) Operations, Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) combat operational support, and built readiness to combat the threats.
