The Battle of Bunker hill was a pivotal turning point in the American Revolution. Although commonly referred to as “Bunker Hill,” the fighting actually occurred on nearby Breed’s Hill, where roughly 2,000 Patriot soldiers fortified the high ground. They held off more than 2,200 advancing British troops until their ammunition was depleted, forcing a retreat. The battle was not considered a complete British victory, as nearly half of the British troops lost their lives or were wounded. The unexpected strength of the Patriot resistance demonstrated the resolve and capability of the colonial forces.
